Base Building In Star Citizen Targets January 2025 With The Latest Roadmap Update

by Cole Phelps

TLDR:

  • The latest roadmap update for Star Citizen organizes the tracker based on deliverables.
  • The work on the base building is expected to conclude earlier in January 2025.
  • The base building will not make it to Alpha 4.0, but it should be ready for the first major patch in 2025.
  • CIG pushed back the release of Alpha 4.0 to Q4 2024.

The latest episode of Roadmap Roundup was shared by CIG yesterday, introducing a new way of categorization in the roadmap’s tracker view, which makes it easier to figure out the deadline for each upcoming feature.

Based on this new tracker vision, the hotly anticipated base-building feature is supposed to be ready in January 2025. Back in CitizenCon 2023, CIG shared some initial details about the base building and the work on this popular feature started in February 2024. So, after almost one year of development, now CIG expects the base building to be ready earlier next year.

If CIG developers commit themselves to this deadline, then we can surely learn more about base building during this year’s CitizenCon event.

CIG does sound pretty confident about the base building’s arrival in the near future as it teased a base in a promotional trailer about Alpha 3.24 a few weeks earlier. Of course, this feature is not coming with any of the Alpha 3.24 and Alpha 4.0 patches, but we the current deadline, we can expect base building to be a part of the first major patch in 2025.

Right now, Alpha 4.0 targets a release in Q4 2024. Thus far, nothing has been removed or delayed from the promised features for Alpha 4.0. CIG even added a new mission type to this patch. The repair missions will task players with traveling to different locations in Pyro to repair mechanical devices using their Multi-tool.

Alpha 4.0 is supposed to add new Charge and Drain mechanics to Multi-tool, which expands its functionality even more. Some variants of this new mission type may even task players with replacing a scrapped part with a new one.

Currently, CIG developers are working on Alpha 3.24 in the PTU servers. While most of the issues around personal hangars and freight elevators have been solved, CIG now tests the Blockade Runner event in the PTU build, providing access to all backers.

More than likely, if the team succeeds with their goals for Blockade Runner in the upcoming days, there shouldn’t be any other reason to hold this patch back from a live release.
