Update: CIG confirmed in a recent video that the update for Carrack includes both Blast Shields that cover the cockpit, as well as retractable side doors to load/unload cargo manually.
Original Story: CIG developer Wakapedia promised some good news about Carrack in the upcoming Alpha 4.0 builds, which could refer to a slight rework on the ship to finally get it back to its glorious days.
While Wakapedia didn’t fully explain what we should expect from the upcoming Carrack update in Star Citizen, there are two major reworks in the pipeline for this beloved ship. The first is a retractable shield for the cockpit in Carrack that was teased before CitizenCon 2954.
The other highly-anticipated rework for the ship is to make it possible to load and unload cargo manually. Despite having a big cargo space, Carrack doesn’t offer direct access to the cargo bay from the outside, which makes it not suitable for cargo-hauling missions anymore.
Anvil Carrack once used to be the only ship in Star Citizen that would allow players to regenerate after death, thanks to its Tier-2 medical beds. However, when CIG integrated the regeneration ability into all medical bed tiers, the ship lost a part of its value. Then it became even worse with the release of physicalized cargo in Alpha 3.24.
So, the Carrack owners are indeed in shambles at the moment, and it seems like this ship needs rework more than any other ship in the ‘verse. So, anything that can help Carrack increase its value and help it become the same safe home again will be welcome.
Now, if the upcoming update fixes the cargo access for Carrack, it may positively impact the ship’s sales when Anvil’s day arrives in IAE 2954. The yearly event will go live on November 22, but Anvil will take over the show floor on Day 9, which is when CIG will also reveal Anvil Paladin, a new gunship from this beloved manufacturer.
