Latest Clash Royale Balance Update Mildly Nerfs Dagger Duchess

by Cole Phelps

June 17 marks the arrival of Supercell’s latest balance pass on Clash Royale cards, with Dagger Duchess drawing all attention to herself as she loses 27% on damage per each dagger, while her hit speed increases by 32%.

At first glance, this might seem like a rework than a nerf, but at the heart, it will slightly hold back Dagger Duchess from her current overpowered state. Increasing the hit speed without changing the charge speed of daggers will not help that much.

You might have an easy time countering Goblin Barrel or Spear Goblins, but this will significantly lower the effectiveness of Dagger Duchess against mid-size targets like Knight or Executioner, as higher hit speed could never compensate for a lower damage rate in those scenarios.

The new update also harshly nerfs Little Prince, the most used Champion card in Clash Royale since its release. Supercell does seem quite confident to lower the presence of Little Prince in the top decks, and this massive nerf may just succeed in doing so.

The new nerfs all focus on the Guardian, as the Charge Damage reduces by 48% and the first hit time for him increases by %150. Also, Guardian will now knock back enemies by 2 tiles, which is 20% shorter than its previous state.

These changes are aimed at reducing the amount of services you can get from Guardian for only 3 Elixir. Little Prince has been a force to be reckoned with since its launch, as the card is pretty capable of dealing with all sorts of threats, though the new nerfs could lower its pick rate significantly.

Moving over to the buffs, three Goblin cards get positive points from Supercell on various stats. Dart Goblin will now deal 8% more damage, Goblin Cage’s cage will be reinforced to have 5% more HP, and Spear Goblins will now perform their first attack 40% faster.

Prince and Ram Rider are the next buffed cards in this patch, with both getting a 50% reduction in their charge distance. This means both troops will start running after they walk for 1.5 tiles. This seems like a pretty big buff for these troops, especially if they are left uninterrupted.

The new patch also targets two Card Evolutions. Tesla Tower’s Card Evolution has seen a surge in use rate recently on top decks, hence Supercell reduces its Pulse Damage by 23% and the Pulse Stun duration by %50.

On the other hand, Knight will lose his hitpoints multiplier in the evolved version, as it will now absorb the same amount of damage as the normal version when standing still.
