TLDR:
- Star Levels are cosmetic upgrades and do not affect a card’s stats.
- Star Level requires Star Points, which can be earned by upgrading cards.
- Each level of Star Level adds minimal change to how your unit looks.
- Spell and building cards do not have Star Levels.
There is always the desire to look different in multiplayer games, no matter if you team up with other players or go against them. Clash Royale is no exception either.
While Supercell offers Tower Skins and Emotes as two major cosmetic items in Clash Royale, Star Level is a relatively new item in this category that you can earn not by spending cash, but rather by playing the game.
Star Level Benefits
Star Level is an upgrade system for each card that instead of boosting its stats or abilities, upgrades how your unit looks on the battlefield.
Not all the cards feature Star Levels, but the ones that have this capability, apply some minimal changes to the way your troops dress when they are spawned.
Depending on the card, there are multiple levels of Star Levels available. Some cards like Goblins will let you upgrade it up to Star Level 3.
In order to preview the changes for each Star Level, go to the Info or Upgrade page of a unit, and then click on the empty star icon on the top left corner of the unit footage. This will show the Star Level 1, if you tap on the icon more, you can see the changes for Star Levels 2 and 3 if available.
Obviously, Star Level does not bring any gameplay advantage. It is just a cosmetic upgrade and you can completely ignore it if you don’t care about your in-game style.
How To Get Star Points To Upgrade Star Level
Star Points are gained from upgrading cards. Depending on what level you upgrade your card to, the amount of Star Level you gain will be different.
Here is the amount of Star Points required for each Star Level upgrade:
- Star Level 1: 5,000 Star Points
- Star Level 2: 10,000 Star Points
- Star Level 3: 20,000 Star Points
Usually, Star Level 1 only adds a golden spawn effect to the unit as well as a golden border to the card’s icon. It is mostly in Star Levels 2 and 3 that you see a change in the actual appearance of the unit.
Keep in mind that spell and building cards do not have Star Levels.
