Despite being one of the most inspiring extraction shooters out there, Escape From Tarkov might not be a suitable choice for everyone.
Hopefully, there are now more than enough games like Escape From Tarkov available that you can enjoy. Even if you love playing Tarkov, these games will become refreshing alternatives to have fun in.
While a few of them are not available yet, most games on the list are in a playable stage and have already been released publicly.
Dark And Darker
- Game State: Early Access
- Platform: PC (Dedicated launcher)
- Price: Free
Unlike all the games on this list, Dark And Darker is not a shooter, but it brings the same extraction mechanics to a fantasy medieval setting, where you will fight using swords, arrows, daggers, and many other weapons of that era.
Similar to Hunt Showdown, the game offers a PvEvP experience, where you can fight off bosses, slay corrupted skeletons, and raid rival players to get the most out of your deadly journey and leave the map with the best possible loot.
Similar to Escape From Tarkov, you can trade stuff with vendors in Dark And Darker, matchmaking in a group or solely, and choose from different maps with different difficulties for the NPCs.
Zero Sievert
- Game State: Early Access
- Platform: PC (Steam)
- Price: $20
In case having realistic visuals is not a priority for you, then Zero Sievert could bring quite a unique experience from an extraction shooter in an offline PvE environment.
This indie top-down shooter might not seem too challenging, but after starting your first raid, you will surely change your mind about Zero Sievert.
Supporting procedurally generated maps allows each raid in Zero Sievert to become a unique experience, as you will face different mutated creatures, different weather conditions, and ruthless rogue groups who will not allow you to scavenge what could be theirs.
Vigor
- Game State: Full version available on consoles, Early Access on PC
- Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
- Price: Free (PC Early Access is paid)
With the PC version still in active development, Vigor is a third-person PvP-focused extraction shooter where every encounter turns into a challenging fight as you can only be interrupted by other raiders.
Each raider is looking to collect as many food and resources as they can to take them to their shelter and build it from scratch, which is much bigger than Tarkov’s hideout.
While you can decide not to engage in a fight with rival scavengers, encounters usually end up in deadly gunfights as loot is quite valuable, especially when there is an airdrop to rob.
Marathon
- Game State: In development
- Platforms: PlayStation 5 and PC
- Price: TBA
Honestly, we don’t know much about Marathon yet as Bungie has not shared anything special other than a cinematic reveal trailer for their upcoming project.
However, we do know that this is an extraction shooter, and based on Bungie’s history, it has the potential to become one of the best shooters in the market.
That being said, an unconfirmed report recently claimed that Marathon might have decided to add hero-based characters rather than allowing players to fully customize their loadouts and abilities.
Obviously, it’s too early to judge anything about Marathon, but we will be looking forward to Bungie’s take on an extraction shooter, regardless of all the rumors.
Incursion Red River
- Game State: Early Access
- Platform: PC (Steam)
- Price: $17
If you take Escape From Tarkov and make it a completely PvE experience, then you would have Incursion Red River. While still in the Early Access stage, the game has a solid state in the case of technical performance.
Play it solo or team up with friends, you have a large map to explore, multiple outposts to raid, and deadly AI-driven guards to kill. And all this happens while you need to keep yourself up and alive.
With a variety of modern weapons, you can enjoy your time in this evolving extraction shooter, where there are no cheaters to kill the fun and joy of the game.
Arena Breakout Infinite
- Game State: Pending Early Access release
- Platforms: Mobile and PC
- Price: Free
While an Early Access build of Arena Breakout Infinite will be going live pretty soon, this is by far the closest experience to Escape From Tarkov at the moment.
The game almost offers the same experience as Tarkov. You matchmake solely or with friends to start a raid in different maps, loot whatever you can deal with the other raiders, and finally leave the area alive.
Arena Breakout Infinite will be a free-to-play title, which is a huge advantage over its competitors, but that will make the game’s job even harder to avoid a pay-to-win monetization model and secure the game with a safe anti-cheat application.
Beautiful Light
- Game State: In development
- Platform: PC (Steam)
- Price: TBA
Beautiful Light is the modern and more horrendous version of Hunt Showdown, where different teams of players drop onto the same map to complete one objective: extracting an artifact.
While dealing with horrifying creatures and anomalies, you should also keep an eye out for rival teams who could catch you off-guard and steal your loot.
Extracting the artifact itself will require you to contain and secure it first, which is a risky process on its own, much similar to that of killing Scav Bosses in Tarkov or field bosses in Hunt Showdown.
Beautiful Light is still under development, but we have more than a single trailer from the game to know how it plays and what it is supposed to deliver, unlike Marathon.
Marauders
- Game State: Early Access
- Platform: PC (Steam)
- Price: $30
How about combining Tarkov’s unforgiving gunplay with late 1990s weapons and space outlaws? Well, that may sound a bit crazy, but it is indeed the idea behind Mauraders, and it’s massively addictive just like Tarkov.
In Mauaraders, your spaceship is your most important belonging, which is almost the equivalent of Tarkov’s hideout, but with a more active presence in each of your raids.
Every time a match begins, you start at the pilot seat of your ship, flying around the space and looking for derelicts or giant abandoned ships for raids. The moment you get inside one of those raids, the game turns into an intense first-person shooter, where you need to find and loot all the valuables and be aware of the other Marauders who may have reached there earlier.
Aside from first-person engagement, which is the core of the gameplay, you can also engage in spaceship battles and destroy other players’ vessels while trying to get to your safe zone or looking for a new raid.
Gray Zone Warfare
- Game State: Early Access
- Platform: PC (Steam)
- Price: $35
If you don’t want to sacrifice any of Tarkov’s specific aspects for something new, the Gray Zone Warfare is the game that you should give a try.
Gray Zone Warfare combines Arma 3’s massive environment with Tarkov’s gameplay loop. Every time, players land on this massive map to either complete quests or loot for better gear.
Either way, you will face both hostile NPCs and rival players during your deadly search around the island. Featuring a modern-day setting with highly customizable military weapons, as well as vendors who sell equipment and ask for favors, Gray Zone Warfare is quite close to the game you would pick up if you love both Arma and Tarkov!
Hunt Showdown
- Game State: Full version available
- Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
- Price: $40
If you are tired of playing Early Access games and don’t really want to face game-breaking bugs, then Hunt Showdown is the best offer you would get as a replacement for Escape From Tarkov.
Developed by the creators of Crysis, Hunt Showdown is a greatly balanced extraction shooter with an addictive gameplay loop and quite realistic old-west weapons.
As a PvEvP shooter, every round starts with teams of hunters seeking to kill the bosses of the field, grab their bounty token, and leave the map. But that will not happen easily, as you have some deadly zombies and creatures to deal with, and rival hunters who will chase you down to get the Bounty token out of your hands.
