Goblin Machine Targeted By The Latest Clash Royale Nerfs

by Cole Phelps

Clash Royale released a new update earlier today, fixing a bunch of bugs and delivering a few balance changes that target two newly arrived cards: Goblin Machine and Goblin Curse.

It is no secret that Goblin Machine was launched in a pretty overpowered state. Imagine spending only 5 Elixir on a card that not only deals melee damage to troops but also carries a rocket launcher that deals more damage than the original Rocket card itself.

However, the new patch harshly nerfs the rocket launching capabilities of Goblin Machine, nerfing both the rocket damage on troops and Crown Towers. The former is reduced by 33% and the latter is dropped by 50%. Supercell even lengthened the time that it takes the rocket to hit its target to 4 seconds.

On the other hand, Goblin Curse lost 30% of damage amplification, which is the only change applied to this card.

All of the new Goblin cards can be obtained for free by progressing through the new Goblin Queen’s Journey game mode. Goblin Demolisher is a free drop at the beginning of the event, and it has not received any balance changes yet as the card feels balanced at the moment.

Goblin Machine’s overpowered state at launch raised many eyebrows in the community, as players were able to abuse its powerful rocket by mirroring the card and targeting the Crown Tower. Even spam units couldn’t deal with the Goblin Machine effectively as they could easily turn into Goblins using the Goblin Curse card, which was also overpowered.

As one of the Reddit users mentioned recently, they were able to crush every opponent using a deck consisting of Goblin Machine, Goblin Curse, Mirror, and a bunch of Cycle cards to let you retain access to the main damage dealers pretty soon.

The current update is expected to tackle the issue to a certain degree, but don’t be surprised if you see one more nerf down the line for Goblin Machine, as the card still seems to be pretty effective thanks to its 5-Elixir price tag.
