The dedicated developers behind Half-Life Alyx No VR mod launched a new Summer Update today, delivering some quality-of-life improvements to the experience, and making it feel much closer to the original version with no need for a VR headset.
Thanks to the new update, players will now be able to solve all the Toner puzzles in the game, as the player interaction with objects has been improved significantly. Moreover, all the in-game objects that are interactable in the VR version, can now be picked up in the No VR mod as well. As a cherry on top of the cake, the modders have also made some other objects in the environment interactable.
These interaction improvements will now allow No VR players to obtain all the Steam Achievements for Half-Life Alyx. There is only one exception for “Disarming A Trip Mine” achievement, which can be achieved by the mod branch for now.
When it comes to exploration and movement, the modders have applied numerous fixes to make the player’s locomotion feel smooth and realistic. So, you will no longer get stuck in objects or terrain. The new fixes will also prevent players from going beyond the defined boundaries for the map, which cuts down the potential exploits.
The Summer Update also adds a new low-accuracy crosshair to the screen for hipfire. This is a small but necessary step from the modders to force players to use ADS mode if they want to shoot accurately. Something that you would definitely do if you had played Half-Life Alyx on a VR headset.
Hopefully, the Summer Update will not be the end of the road for the modders. In the future, you can expect more updates coming to the No VR mod in Half-Life Alyx, expanding the mod’s compatibility with other mods available for the game, and improving the overall experience by adding new animations to weapons and items.
