Trench Tales is the latest stellar indie project from a solo developer that combines the terrors of war with the world of the undead in an alternative World War setting.
This third-person shooter will trap you in darkness, forcing players to venture forth to the frontlines of the battle, deal with evil-natured undead soldiers, and uncover the mystery behind this never-ending nightmare.
Trench Tales is now on Kickstarter and you have less than a month to support the developer and help them reach their goal of $60,000 to fund the project. As of writing this article, the game has managed to raise nearly 50% of what it aims for.
The good thing about Trench Tales’ Kickstarter Campaign is that it offers a wide variety of editions for backers, each coming with different bonuses. The offers span from a $25 Recruit Edition that guarantees a Steam key, puts your name in the credits, and grants you a specific in-game skin and Discord role, to a $1500 Immortal Artisan’s Vault Edition that comes with access to both Alpha and Beta versions of the game as well as plenty of in-game cosmetics and even the opportunity to design a side-quest for the game.
Diving into the gameplay, Trench Tales describes itself as a “third-person action”, but a major part of that action comes with weapons, though you can do some stealth as well.
Customizing your character and their weapons is a big part of the game and the progression system. Plus, you will earn some special skills and abilities during the game to help you deal with the brutal enemies.
Powered by Unreal Engine, Trench Tales comes with a destructible environment, which significantly tweaks the realism and immersion of the experience. Visually, the game doesn’t have anything short of a big, studio-made project, and that’s where the invaluable experience of the solo developer in projects like Prey, Call of Duty Black Ops 3, and Rise of the Tomb Raider shines.
As the Kickstarter page reveals, Trench Tales is not entirely made by a single person, as freelancers were involved in different parts to a certain degree, however, the project is led by a single developer, crafting the vision, the quests, the designs, and the ultimate experience.
If everything goes according to plan, Trench Tales targets a release on Steam in 2025.
