TLDR:
- Paul Furio, the former technical director behind Kerbal Space Program 2, announced that he had to cancel his Reddit AMA.
- The former Intercept Games developer was supposed to answer questions about the development of Kerbal Space Program 2.
- Furio implied sarcastically in his new message that he had received an email reminding him of the legal consequences of sharing internal stories.
Kerbal Space Program 2 is probably one of the most saddening stories of the gaming industry in recent years, especially after all the rumors around the shutdown of its developer Intercept Games by Take-Two Interactive.
On July 24, the former technical director behind Kerbal Space Program 2, Paul Furio, announced on Reddit that he would launch an AMA topic on Friday to answer some of the community’s burning questions about the game, its development, and the challenges.
While we all were curious to get our answers today, Furio revealed on a new topic on Reddit that he had to cancel the AMA. Apparently, the former developer had received an email from an undisclosed source, which forced Furio to back off from his intention to share some of the behind-the-scenes stories about Kerbal Space Program 2.
“I was going to do an AMA tomorrow, and had already written up a bunch of answers to questions folks asked,” explains Furio about his plans for Friday. “Then I received a lovely email, and reviewed the answers I had started to write up, realizing that the very smart author of that email would find something in those answers to your questions that they could argue were troublesome, despite my best efforts for them not to be, and that would just be bad for everyone.”
It doesn’t need rocket science to figure out that “lovely email” is a sarcastic reference to a threatening message from a source who could legally sue Furio and cause him some serious trouble. So, anybody would probably cancel the AMA to keep themselves and some other developers safe from possible legal actions.
Now, it remains unknown who could the source of the email be. Private Division? Take-Two? Higher-ups of Intercept Games? It is pretty hard to guess. Or maybe not?
Furio also announced that Kerbal Space Program 2 marks the end of his career as a game developer. “I think I’m done, in this field and career line,” says Furio. “Software development and corporate culture aren’t much fun anymore.”
Kerbal Space Program 2 was released in Early Access back in February 2023. The game was far away from its own standards at launch, and it didn’t take players long to express their frustration over the game at the time on Steam and social media.
The game’s first major update was released almost 9 months after launch in December 2023, and since then the game has not hit any meaningful milestone in development.
In May 2024, it was rumored that Take-Two Interactive wanted to shut down Intercept Games and hand over Kerbal Space Program 2 to its publisher, Private Division. However, the CEO of Take-Two denied the closure of the studio in a later interview.
Anyways, the secrets of Kerbal Space Program 2’s development will still remain secrets for now. Unless a developer anonymously shares the behind-the-scenes stories through social media accounts or by contacting trustworthy insiders.
Gamers Off-Limits is ready to share those stories anonymously if any developer at Intercept Games wants to let the community know about where the shortcomings came from.
