Don’t Expect Manor Lords To Be A 4X Sim, Developer Warns

by Cole Phelps

In a recent blog post shared on Steam, the developer behind Manor Lords shared a few words about the game, its development process in the early months of release, and what you should expect from it.

First things first, the developer makes it clear that you should adjust your expectations from Manor Lords in the boundaries of a city-builder more than anything else. “Manor Lords is not a Total War competitor,” says the developer. “Yes, battles are there, but not as huge or as frequent as some of you might expect.”

Manor Lords describes itself as an organic city-builder with a focus on growing from a village to a bustling city by overcoming challenges, managing resources, and keeping the supply chain steady. The game does try to add variety to this gameplay loop with some other features like wars or taking over new regions, but the scale of those parts will not be huge.

“It’s not an Empire Management style Grand Strategy game either,” the developer reiterates. “The map has regions, but you won’t be able to conquer the whole Europe, nor have marriages or anything like that.”

If anything, this short message from the developer is a much-appreciated warning to all those who may have wishlisted Manor Lords with a different vision in mind than what it is actually supposed to be.

Slavic Magic, the one-man developer behind Manor Lords also revealed that most patches launching in the first few months of release will focus on fixing bugs, rather than adding new content.

The developer also made it clear that he is not willing to share a roadmap for Manor Lords anytime soon, as he wants to see the feedback from the community before promising any new feature that might not be important enough for the gamers.

Despite launching as an Early Access title, Manor Lords will feature all the core gameplay parts at launch. If any new adjustment is supposed to be made, it would be a community-driven decision.

Targeting a release on PC and Xbox consoles, Manor Lords will be available on April 26. The game will also directly launch on Game Pass.

While there is no news on a PlayStation version of Manor Lords yet, here we have a list of similar games that you can play on PS5.
