Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 Leaks Show Silk As Playable Character

by Cole Phelps

Insomniac Games probably experienced one of the most notorious data hacks in gaming history back in 2023, and the consequences of this ransomware attack still don’t leave the studio alone as the hackers have now shared a few screenshots from a very early build of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, the next big Insomniac project after Marvel’s Wolverine.

While you shouldn’t expect much from these new screenshots, they do give a few hints on what Insomniac Games is cooking for the next step in the franchise.

Since the screenshots are from an early build, they look quite ugly as if the game is running on potato mode, but we can still have a nice look at the protagonist’s suit, which comes with an “S” on the chest, which is an indicator of Silk.

If you look precisely at the body shape of the character, you can easily identify that the body belongs to a female character rather than a male one. And to be honest, this is not surprising to see Silk appearing as a protagonist in the next iteration as we haven’t had a Spider-Woman or Spider-Girl since the beginning of the franchise. So, this would be a nice refresh.

That being said, we still need to go back to the initial warning that the leaked screenshots are from a build that was roughly 6 months old. And many things can change before Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 releases, especially knowing that there is at least one game ahead of it to launch in Insomniac’s schedule.

Aside from the main playable character, the game seems to be set in the same environment as the previous iterations, as we see Silk swinging around Central Park in New York City. It is hard to believe the Spider-Man series moves to any other city in the third installment.

Interestingly, the team behind the leaked screenshots revealed that they will add this Silk suit to the unofficial port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which has currently received numerous updates and hotfixes on PC and runs as smoothly as an official port. This is just crazy how far this modding group has gone with the data they have stolen from Insomniac Games.

It is yet to be seen what else could be leaked from the future projects of Insomniac Games. The hackers previously released multiple gameplay clips from Marvel’s Wolverine, revealing some of the main gameplay mechanics as well as the protagonist’s skills, though no playable demos had been leaked from that game yet.

It’s worth noting that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 has not even been officially confirmed by either Sony or Insomniac Games. It was based on the leaked data from Insomniac’s servers that we learned a third installment for Marvel’s Spider-Man is in the works. Aside from Spider-Man 3, the leaks also revealed that Insomniac Games has a new Ratchet And Clank as well as an X-Men game in the pipeline.
