No Man’s Sky Worlds Update Adds Missions That Give Off Helldivers 2 Vibes

by Cole Phelps

TLDR:

  • The Worlds update adds a new bug-hunting expedition to No Man’s Sky.
  • Players will need to fight with giant, corrupted bugs and help the Liquidator Vanguard crew.
  • Completing the expedition will reward you with a bug-themed armor set.
  • Some significant visual upgrades have also been applied to No Man’s Sky with this new update.

It’s unbelievable, but Hello Games still supports No Man’s Sky with massive updates, and Worlds Part 1 is just another big content drop for the developers aiming to make the world feel “richer, wilder, and more varied”.

One of the major parts of this new update, however, is a new expedition that brings an experience quite similar to that of Helldivers 2: a bug-hunting expedition.

With the arrival of Update 5.0, players will be able to join the Liquidator Vanguard crew and help them fight against a quickly spreading corruption that affects bugs, making them mutate and oppose a threat against other living species.

It is no rocket science that No Man’s Sky has taken a little inspiration from Helldivers 2, a game that also focuses on sending players into wars against giant bugs in multiple parts of the universe. Knowing how popular Helldivers 2 became at launch, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for No Man’s Sky to deliver a similar experience for its players with the new update.

The Liquidator Vanguard will not force you to complete missions, but the more you help them in this universe-wide battle against corrupted bugs, the more rewards you will receive in return. Completing the expedition will earn you a full organic bug-themed armor set along with trophies and posters.

The Worlds update is not all about this bug-hunting expedition though. You can expect a significant visual overhaul with the new version, as Hello Games adds new volumetric clouds, wind simulation, dynamic water with increased texture quality, and new detailed shadows.

These visual improvements are all courtesy of the engine enhancements that have been applied to No Man’s Sky with the new update. You will also see these improvements performance-wise, as the rendering of environmental objects is now a GPU-based task, which will take the load of the CPU significantly. Also, you can expect faster loading times and improved framerates with 5.0.

Last but not least, the world of No Man’s Sky also hosts some significant changes. The new update introduces a gravitational distortion on some planets, where you will see parts of the planet have detached from it and float in the air.

Moreover, the terrain and vegetation for frozen and desert-based planets have changed, making them look more realistic and highly believable.

It is yet to be seen when we can expect World Part 2 to come out, but it is fascinating how Hello Games is still dedicated to improving the player experience in No Man’s Sky, while they are already working on their next big project, Light No Fire.
