Once Human Will Not Support Steam Deck And DLSS At Launch

by Cole Phelps

TLDR:

  • Once Human will not support DLSS or Steam Deck at launch.
  • There is no official date on when you can expect these features to be added to the game.
  • There are multiple other limitations at launch as well, such as the lack of the ability to create multiple characters on one account.

Once Human is one of the highly anticipated survival games of 2024, and despite the fact that the game will not be released in the Early Access phase, it will still lack a bunch of features that you usually expect from a finalized product.

According to the developer, Starry Studio, Once Human will not support DLSS at launch, as the optimization process of the game is still in progress. However, the game will launch with DirectX 12 support, though it will cause a slight frame drop compared to DirectX 11.

Unfortunately, the Steam Deck support will also be delivered with a post-launch update, as the developer still working on some technical adjustments, which does not allow the game to support controllers or Steam Deck at launch.

Once Human is not the first game to delay side-features like DLSS or Steam Deck to a later date after release. While DLSS or FSR has turned into a popular request from PC gamers, the implementation of the feature is quite important. Not all games featuring DLSS or FSR are able to boost frame rates significantly.

Supporting DLSS or Steam Deck is not the only feature that has been delayed, though. Starry Studio has confirmed Once Human for consoles and mobile, but those versions will not launch yet. As a result, the cross-play feature is also not functional for now with the game only launching on PC.

Content-wise, Once Human will launch with similar scenarios for both Manibus and Evoluion’s Call servers, with more diverse scenarios promised for some time after launch. Moreover, players will only be able to create a single character per account due to technical limitations. This issue is expected to be resolved by August 2024, allowing players to have more than one character.

While a detailed roadmap has not been provided by Starry Studio yet, the developer plans to expand the supported languages by adding Russian and Spanish in September 2024. You can also send a request for your spoken language to be added to the game.
