Rainbow Six Siege Will No Longer Kick You For Team Kills After Update Y9S2.3

by Cole Phelps

TLDR:

  • While the team-kill penalty will apply, players will no longer be kicked for a second team-kill attempt.
  • Melusi will receive an ITA12S shotgun as a secondary weapon, in addition to one more Banshee.
  • Echo will now be a 3-Health 1-Speed operator, losing magnified scope for his MP5SD
  • Gridlock has also received a damage buff for her Trax Stingers.

Today, Rainbow Six Siege officially delivered update Y9S2.3, and with that comes a big change to how the game treats griefers, especially those who kill their teammates more than once in the game.

From now on, the game will no longer kick you for killing a teammate more than once, however, the team-kill penalty will still apply. This means, that if a player attempts to kill a teammate in-game, the shot will return to the player themselves, killing their character instead of the teammate. Previously, the second attempt used to result in kicking the guilty player from the match, and a 1-hour ban from matchmaking.

While this sounds logical for kills that come from gunshots, it seems like a risky move for explosive kills. So imagine a player attempting a team-kill with a C4. While this will still kill the guilty player’s character, it can also kill other players, and with the guilty player still in the match, they could probably repeat it again and again, ruining the game for their teammates.

This change seems to be a result of the full launch reputation system in Rainbow Six Siege, but believe it or not, it is mostly counted as a bonus for griefers. While this change aims to be a relief for players who accidentally kill their teammates more than once in a game, the safety that it provides for griefers seems to be scarier.

Update Y9S2.3 Patch Notes

Looking at the other changes with Y9S2.3, Rainbow Six Siege will host the following balance adjustments for the operators listed below:

  • Azami
    • Kiba Barrier: Increased bullet damage received.
  • Buck
    • Removed GONNE-6.
  • Echo
    • Added Magnified Scope to the MP5SD.
    • Changed to 3 health and 1 speed (from 2/2).
  • Ela
    • Removed Observation Blocker.
    • Added Impact Grenades.
  • Gridlock
    • Increased Trax Stingers’ damage to 15hp (from 10).
  • Melusi
    • Removed Magnified Scope from MP5.
    • Added ITA12S as a secondary weapon.
    • Increased Banshee Sonic Defense to 4 (from 3).
  • Wamai
    • Removed Magnified Scope from MP5K.

With these changes, we can expect a slight increase in the pick rate of Gridlock and Melusi for the significant buffs they have received for their special gadgets.

Since Melusi turned into a 1-Speed operator, the pick rate dropped a little bit, but now the addition of a shotgun to its secondary weapon tool with one more Banshee could turn her into a solid site holder.
