Splitgate 2 Releases In 2025, Nothing From Original Splitgate Will Carry Over To The Sequel

TLDR:

  • Splitgate 2 will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025.
  • The game will be a free-to-play multiplayer-only experience similar to its predecessor.
  • The developer has not decided on the fate of the original Splitgate yet, but the servers will remain active until the end of 2024.
  • No items, skins, or Splitcoins will carry over from the original Splitgate to the sequel.

1047 Games officially revealed Splitgate 2, the long-rumored sequel to one of the ground-breaking multiplayer games of this generation that rose to fame almost as quickly as it fell down.

The original Splitgate experienced a sudden success on PC up to the point that the developers had to increase the server capacity after the early access release, as the number of players was well above the amount that would have been predicted. Those good days, however, didn’t last long, and Splitgate started to lose its players with a pretty harsh slope.

Now, Splitgate 2 will bring a new life to the same concept with some significant improvements. The game will now feature factions, and each faction will offer a set of unique features, though more announcements about that will be made in the future.

Splitgate 2 is supposed to be a 4v4 competitive first-person shooter, with the unique twist of portals, the same feature that made the original game create a massive buzz in the industry.

The sequel targets a release in 2025 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Similar to its predecessor, Splitgate 2 will be a multiplayer-only experience, but the game already has a companion app that allows you to read stories about the lore behind the sequel. That’s all we have to share on this new project so far, along with the first cinematic trailer. But there is also some important information on the original Splitgate.

According to 1047 Games, the servers for the original Splitgate will still remain active until the end of 2024, however, the developer has not reached a conclusion yet on what to do next. They might make the decision to shut down Splitgate forever as we approach the release of the sequel, but that’s only one of the available options for the studio at the moment.

Even if Splitgate continues to live, none of its items, skins, or Splitcoins will be carried over to the sequel. So, everything you have purchased or earned in the original Splitgate will be locked inside that game forever.

That being said, 1047 Games is considering some compensations in Splitgate 2 for players who have supported the series since the original entry. No details have been shared on the compensation, but we will probably learn more about it in the future.
