The monthly report for Squadron 42’s development in March 2024 reveals some interesting improvements made in different parts of the game, especially the first chapter, which now features several overhauled scenes with new motion-captured shots.
According to Cloud Imperium Games, the team behind Gameplay Store made substantial progress on Chapter 1, as they made some adjustments by adding new mo-cap shots to overhaul several scenes, leading to a better flow of the levels.
Other than that, the team also completed a huge update on Chapter 4, revolving around a complex two-person scene, which helped it feel more in line with the rest of the game’s world.
Aside from the story elements, AI, UI, Tech Design, and Animation teams also hit new milestones by the end of the last month. You can check out a summary of March 2024’s report down below:
- New dialogues were added for NPCs aboard Javelin Gauntlet.
- New deformation physics was added for the bed mattress.
- NPCs can now press wall buttons while carrying boxes.
- The animation team continued working on multiple story scenes, including life aboard ships and space stations.
- The VFX team is waiting for the results from a widespread Vulkan test in Alpha 3.23 to further optimize the CPU performance in Squadron 42.
- The narrative team provided “fluff” text for occasions such as news headlines on TV screens.
- The tech team reworked AI for flight to make enemies more difficult and responsive.
- The UI team moved to optimize the game’s opening level for a better storytelling experience and increased framerate.
In addition to the above, some other little adjustments were also made in Squadron 42, including bug fixes for various parts of the game.
It was back in 2023’s CitizenCon event that Chris Roberts, CEO of Cloud Imperium Games, revealed Squadron 42 hit the feature-complete milestone. This is a huge progress made toward the final release of this campaign mode, as it means that the core techs and features for the game have already been implemented, and all the work is being done at the moment aims to further optimize and improve the experience.
This, of course, doesn’t mean we have a release date for Squadron 42, but we are closer than ever to its launch, and we rest assured that nothing threatens its release at all.
