While ships are the core of transportation in Star Citizen, there are some places that you either can go with a ship or it’s too risky to take your ship to. And that’s when ground vehicles come in.
Similar to ships, Star Citizen features a wide variety of ground vehicles, and they are usually cheap enough that you can purchase one using in-game currency after a little bit of grind. But if you are new to the game, you might wonder what’s the best vehicle for transportation on planets.
Origin X1
A Classy, Decent-Sized Hoverbike
- Seats: 1
- In-Game Price: Only available via Pledge Store
Coming from the manufacturer of the most luxurious ships in the verse, X1 is Origin’s first attempt at crafting a hovering bike based on its own design language.
While X1 does look quite beautiful with its slick design, performance-wise, it’s not something groundbreaking. Similar to most other hoverbikes and hoverquads, it’s still a deathtrap, but that’s a sacrifice for reaching your destination faster than usual.
Hopefully, the handling of X1 is better than Dragonfly, but when it comes to speed, Origin’s hoverbike stands far behind its main competitor Aopoa Nox.
Greycat PTV
A Tiny Transport For Smaller Ships
- Seats: 2
- In-Game Price: 5,140 aUEC
Greycat PTV is the smallest ground vehicle in Star Citizen, built for roaming around streets inside cities, but the vehicle is actually capable of traversing on the rough terrains of planets as well.
This is a great choice for every player who doesn’t have a big enough cargo space on their ship to fit in a Cyclone or an Ursa. So, they can go for a PTV.
Of course, this tiny vehicle is not speedy enough, and sometimes it can’t even move up a hill with a heavy slope. However, it’s still capable of transporting up to two players around if you treat it well.
Anvil Spartan
Built For Heavy Cargo/Personnel Transport
- Seats: 9
- In-Game Price: 255,500 aUEC
Unlike Greycat PTV, Anvil Spartan is the biggest vehicle on this list, and the best choice for players who want to carry around boxes or transport a full crew of players. As such, it will require a heavy ship to carry it around rather than a mid-size freight.
Coming with a mounted turret on top, Anvil Spartan is built for the worst terrains on the planet. So, you can rest assured that there is nowhere you can’t reach with this giant vehicle.
That sheer power comes as a sacrifice for speed, of course, but you will be able to shut down any turrets that could be a threat to your ships.
Aopoa Nox
Fastest Hoverbike Available
- Seats: 1
- In-Game Price: 349,200 aUEC
Coming back to players who prefer speed over everything else, Aopoa Nox is the best hover-anything vehicle in Star Citizen at the moment, offering high-speed transportation on the planet’s surface.
While Nox is still not a safe choice compared to wheeled vehicles, it can fit into almost all mid-size ships with a decent cargo space.
If you just want to reach different places to complete missions without the need to carry anything else back and forth, then Nox can do it for you at the highest possible speed.
RSI Lynx
A Luxurious And Capable Planet Explorer
- Seats: 4
- In-Game Price: Only available via Pledge Store
Lynx is something that you would expect Origin to deliver, but it’s manufactured by RSI. A luxurious wheeled vehicle with a slick design and four seats with the driver included.
Lynx is the best option for exploring planets at ease with a mid-size crew. Offering weapon racks and a small hab area for two people, the vehicle gives you an enjoyable trip on planets, without falling short in dealing with rough terrains.
Despite its beautiful look, the Lynx is still capable of defending itself and shutting down air-defense systems thanks to a mounted remote turret on top.
Greycat STV
A Two-Seat Vehicle For Rough Explorations
- Seats: 2
- In-Game Price: 12,000 aUEC
Greycat STV is the faster and more capable version of PTV that still comes with two seats but offers higher speed and better maneuverability. Not to mention that it is less likely to struggle when claiming up the hills.
These better species, however, come at the cost of a bigger size. Of course, STV is still smaller than all Tumbril Cyclone versions, but it is not as tiny as PTV to fit into small-sized ships anymore.
Similar to PTV, STV doesn’t have a cargo carrier space either, which is probably a sacrifice for keeping the size as small as possible.
RSI Ursa
An All-In-One Vehicle For Any Purposes
- Seats: 6
- In-Game Price: 70,267 aUEC
The worker-class version of Lynx comes at a lower cost and offers a bigger space that can be used either for cargo or personnel transport.
You can think of Ursa as a smaller version of Anvil Spartan that actually fits into mid-size ships as well. It almost has everything that Spartan would offer but on a smaller scale.
If you want an all-in-one ground vehicle with a decent size and price, then Ursa is our top suggestion.
Tumbril Cyclone RC
Built For Fast And Safe Transportation
- Seats: 2
- In-Game Price: 28,086 aUEC
Without a doubt, the Cyclone series offers the best experience for wheeled ground vehicles in Star Citizen. And that’s the reason why there are multiple variants of Cyclone available.
The RC variant represents the racing version of Cyclone, which is claimed to be slightly faster than other models, thanks to a unique intake system.
That higher speed, however, comes at the cost of losing one seat at the back, which could carry another person or even be a small cargo space for 1-SCU boxes. RC also lacks any weapons, which doesn’t make it effective for fighting.
Drake Mule
The Mightiest Tiny Vehicle
- Seats: 1
- In-Game Price: 15,000 aUEC
If you still insist on speed but don’t have enough space for a Cyclone, then you can think of the Drake Mule as your new wheeled vehicle.
Unlike its simple look, Mule is a massively capable vehicle on the rough terrains of Star Citizen, and it can transport you to almost everywhere at an unbelievable speed.
Although it is a one-seat vehicle, it has a cargo space at the back to carry boxes. The only shortcoming of Mule is its handling, which is a result of its extreme speed rate.
Tumbril Cyclone TR
Covers All Necessary Needs At A Decent Scale
- Seats: 3
- In-Game Price: 28,086 aUEC
We already talked about Ursa as an all-in-one vehicle, but that’s a little bit sizey vehicle. If you want the same functionalities at a decent size, the Cyclone TR can make you happy.
While lacking a cargo space, Cyclone TR comes with a third seat that is actually a manned turret, making it capable of dealing with threats while carrying enough players to engage in a mid-size FPS fight.
Last but not least, Cyclone TR is faster and easier to control than Ursa, which makes it an ultimate choice for any player who simply owns a ship that can carry a Cyclone.
