Star Citizen Blockade Runner Event Is Committed For 3.24

by Cole Phelps

It wasn’t a long time ago that Cloud Imperium Games announced they would change the next patch’s name to Alpha 3.24, as it includes enough content to be a major patch.

While transitioning all the promised features for Alpha 3.23.2 to Alpha 3.24, CIG didn’t take a stand on Blockade Runner at the time, but now we have the official word from the developer that the new event will be released in Alpha 3.24.

In the latest episode of Roadmap Roundup, CIG added all the features that are committed to arriving with Alpha 3.24, including Personal and Instanced Hangars, Storage Access, Freight Elevators, Cargo Hauling Missions, and the new dynamic event Blockade Runner.

What Is Blockade Runner About?

Revealed back in 2023, Blockade Runner will be another Nine Tails-themed event, where the notorious gang will take one of the major space stations under siege, resisting any of the ships trying to enter to or exit from the station. In between, players will be tasked with transferring Quantanium from the sieged space station to a Lagrange Point.

As you can guess, you will need a cargo hauler in this event one way or another. After all, the more Quantanium you transfer, the bigger prize you will get. However, a heavily armed cargo hauler will have a better chance of surviving the lockdown, either by using its own turrets or getting help from space fighters who distract Nine Tails until the cargo hauler gets the job done.

Star Citizen recently hosted the final part of its Overdrive Initiative dynamic event. While it was a pretty fun and new approach to the event, there is still a lot of work to be done performance-wise. The final XenoThreat battle in Overdrive Initiative caused massive frame drops to a lot of players along with sudden server desync.

Alpha 3.24 is currently available in the EPTU channel for the first wave of testers. The Blockade Runner event is not a part of testing yet, and it is possible that we receive this event somewhere in the middle of Alpha 3.24 rather than its launch day. Similar to how the XenoThreat event was released after Alpha 3.23.

The new update for the roadmap didn’t change anything for Alpha 4.0, as it is still scheduled for Q3 2024.
