Star Citizen Contested Zones May Reward Players With F8C Lightning In The End

by Cole Phelps

Thanks to the information extracted by dataminers of Pipeline from a recent Star Citizen build, it seems like there will be a certain mission in Contested Zones in Pyro that tasks players with discovering an Executive Hangar that is home to a random secret ship that players can own.

Finding the path to Executive Hangar will require players to complete multiple objectives inside the contested zones, and as you can guess, they probably won’t be easy. Some of the objectives will have players looking for different keycards to activate a variety of terminals.

However, once the player manages to beat all the missions and gain access to the Executive Hangar, one of the ships below will spawn for them as a reward. The player will apparently own this ship, more like an in-game purchase.

  • Drake Cutter Rambler
  • Drake Cutlass Black
  • Anvil F8C Lightning

Now, F8C Lightning does stand out among the other possible rewards. This heavy fighter only goes on sale occasionally, and only players with a golden ticket can get it via the pledge store.

F8C Lightning cannot be purchased in-game and there is no such plan for the foreseeable future, but designing such a mechanic to reward players with an F8C for their hard work toward completing a mission, sounds great! But it makes me wonder, what would happen if players manage to reach the Executive Hangar in a group?

Now, it remains unknown how the one ship from the ones mentioned above will be chosen as a reward, but most likely each one of them will have a drop chance, with F8C Lightning having the lowest drop rate, obviously. Or, it could be tied to how perfectly a player completes the objectives. Either way, this Executive Hangar mission in Contested Zones does sound rewarding to attract a lot of players.

Contested Zones are aimed to be released with Alpha 4.0 when Pyro becomes available as a new star system in the ‘verse. Although many other features have been removed from 4.0, Contested Zones could still keep players entertained long enough if they are as challenging and rewarding as they sound.
