While owning at least one ship in Star Citizen is mandatory to play the game, you don’t always have to be quite rich to be able to buy new vessels.
In fact, if you are looking for ships with special capabilities to earn aUEC, there is the option to rent them for a certain amount of time by paying a much cheaper fee than it is required actually to buy them.
The variety of ships or vehicles you can rent is not wide. For now, CIG has limited rentals to only mining vehicles and a few small cargo haulers. But it is still an efficient option to get familiar with jobs like mining before investing a lot of aUEC in it.
Ship rentals vary between four periods: 1-day, 3-day, 7-day, and 30-day. Do note that the days here represent in-game days not real-life days.
Here, we will go over every location that you can rent ships and vehicles from.
Lagrange Points With A Refinery
One of the easiest ways to rent ships in Star Citizen is to visit a refinery at a Lagrange Point. If you open your Star Map, there are a bunch of space stations in the game that are marked by an “L” at the end of their name, like HUR-L1. These are all Lagrange Points, but not all of them host a refinery. The following Lagrange Points are the ones with a refinery:
- ARC-L1
- MIC-L1
- HUR-L1
- CRU-L1
- HUR-L2
Use the elevators in a Lagrange point and get to the refinery deck. Here, head downstairs and follow the path straight until you reach the entrance to a refinery shop. Inside, you will find a terminal for ship rentals. Here is the list of ships you can rent from refineries:
- Misc Prospector
- Drake Cutlass Black
- Greycat Roc
Major Space Stations
Everus Harbor on Hurston, Port Tressler on Microtech, Seraphim Station on Crusader, and Baijini Point on ArcCorp are three major space stations that allow players to rent ships.
The ship rental terminals can be found inside the Cargo Services section at the Cargo Center level in each station. Here are the ships you can rent from space stations:
- Aegis Avenger Titan
- Drake Cutlass Black
- Misc Freelancer
All Major Cities
All the big cities in Star Citizen have a location to rent ships. In Lorville, you can find the ship rentals kiosk in front of the hangar elevators at Teasa Spaceport
In Area 18, the ship rental terminals are located at Riker’s Memorial Spaceport. In Orison, they are at the corridor that connects the Shuttle Station to the August Dunlow hangar elevators. Finally, in New Babbage, you can find ship rentals on the same floor as ASOP terminals at NBIS.

As you can guess, the best places to rent fighter or cargo ships are major cities as they offer a wide variety of rental ships and vehicles. However, if you want mining ships, you must visit a refinery deck.
Unfortunately, CIG has not added either Drake Vulture or Aegis Reclaimer to the rental chain, which keeps the salvaging still exclusive to players who do own a salvage ship.
