Star Citizen Introduces Four New FPS Weapons, Including A Crossbow

by Cole Phelps

The latest episode of Inside Star Citizen was focused on the Weapon Content team and started with a brief introduction of everyone involved in creating FPS weapons and turrets at Cloud Imperium Games, and then we got our first look at four new FPS weapons in development.

While delivering new weapons from the existing companies, the Weapon Content team also showcased some new manufacturers from the verse that we are yet to know of. So, without further ado, let’s have a look at these new weapons.

Behring P8AR

The bigger brother to P4AR comes with a lengthier muzzle and lower fire rate but also increased damage. This weapon was first designed exclusively for Squadron 42, but then the development team decided to bring it to Star Citizen as well after the feedback from the backers.

That being said, the version in Star Citizen will be different from the one in Squadron 42. So, the developers did a little bit of redesign and created a bunch of new skins for this Civilian Edition.

Volt Parallax Rifle

Volt is a brand-new manufacturer in the verse, bringing cheaper weapons with a design language that only a Drake lover would probably favor.

Parallax Rifle is something between a railgun and a laser gun. The weapon uses batteries to charge its bullets, and when you start firing the fire rate slowly increases until the laser bullets turn into a beam of laser energy.

Since Parallax Rifle comes from an economical manufacturer, they will need repair over time as the material quality is pretty low, and you can tell it with the weapon’s no-case design.

Pyro SMG

If the Volt Parallax Rifle is made from cheap materials, the Pyro SMG is an outright homemade weapon that poor Pyro residents use to defend themselves.

You can think of Pyro SMG as an enhanced Tec-9 that comes with a pretty high fire rate. Indeed, it feels like a weaponized Pyro Multi-Tool as it uses a battery-like magazine.

That being said, Pyro SMG’s little dimensions allow you to expose less of yourself when peeking at corners, which is a big plus.

Ultiflex Novia Crossbow

Ultiflex Crossbow in Star Citizen

Probably the most badass weapon we have ever seen in Star Citizen so far! The Novia Crossbow is a fantastic weapon from a new manufacturer that loads bolts automatically, adds shock energy to them, and shoots them with a single touch of the trigger.

The weapon’s design looks quite slick, and it can, of course, one-shot the enemies even with a torso shot. However, there is a development barrier with the Novia Crossbow, which is the main reason why it is not ready for launch yet.

The developers want the bolts to stick and stay on any surface that is being shot at, and it seems to be something with the complex physics mechanic of Star Citizen. But once this barrier is out of the way, there are no excuses to delay the crossbow.

Interestingly, at the end of the video, we also spotted a different variant of the Novia Crossbow bolts that deals explosive damage.

Other Teased Weapons

Aside from the four weapons above, there are other weapons in development from all of these new manufacturers, and while we didn’t get a full introduction to them, we had a glimpse of a few of these exciting weapons.

Currently, there are no tentative release windows for any of the new weapons. The trailer does not even mention Alpha 4.0, but they look quite ready. So, don’t give up hope!
