Star Citizen Needs Massive Funding Boost In IAE 2954 Before Getting Into Trouble

by Cole Phelps

Unlike previous years, Star Citizen didn’t deliver too many ships for pre-order during CitizenCon 2954, which could be one of the reasons why the crowdfunding for October 2024 fell behind the same period in 2023.

According to the data provided by CCUGame, the crowdfunding for Star Citizen grew by $15 million back in October 2023, but the amount for this year’s October was $9 million, which indicates a 40% reduction.

October is usually an important month for Star Citizen as CIG holds its annual CitizenCon event during this year, which is always accompanied by new concept pre-orders.

For this year, CIG offered Starlancer MAX, Starlancer TAC, and Argo CSV-SM as pledge offers after CitizenCon in October, but it seems these options were not as popular as last year’s concept sale, the RSI Zeus Mk 2 series.

Now, 2024 still isn’t over for Star Citizen, as two big moments still remain. Looking from the crowdfunding perspective, IAE 2954 is going to be an important event for Star Citizen to not only increase its overall budget but also cover the weak marketing performance back in October 2024.

During IAE 2954, Star Citizen will offer ships from different manufacturers every day. The hotly anticipated capital ship, RSI Polaris is also expected to be launched when IAE 2954 kicks off, and knowing that CIG will probably lift the quantity limit for this giant ship, the game may actually submit a record sale in November.

Hopefully, IAE 2954 is not the end of the world for CIG. The team is also trying to release Alpha 4.0 before 2025. This new major patch will likely be released in December 2024, and when it hits live servers, CIG can expect a massive surge in the number of players joining Star Citizen for the first time.

With Alpha 4.0, Star Citizen will eventually receive its second star system, Pyro, along with the first phase of the server meshing, a long-anticipated tech to improve the player count and connectivity quality.

So, while the situation for Star Citizen does seem a little bit unsafe at the moment, CIG will have two big moments in the remaining weeks of 2024 to make it the best year ever in terms of crowdfunding.
