Star Citizen Not Addressing Prison Bugs In Alpha 3.23.1a PTU Got Fans Worried

by Cole Phelps

Last night, Cloud Imperium Games deployed the second build of Star Citizen Alpha 3.23.1a on PTU servers, but the developer still has not addressed the prison system’s game-breaking bugs yet.

Since the release of Alpha 3.23, the Klescher Rehabilitation System has turned into a real nightmare for unlawful players or anyone who wakes in prison for whatever reason.

It’s been a while since this bug has been reported at Issue Council, and while it has received nearly 200 upvotes at the time of writing this article, Cloud Imperium Games still has neither acknowledged it among the Known Issues nor delivered a fix in the PTU builds of Alpha 3.23.1a so far.

Not addressing the problem has fans worried as more players are submitting feedback posts on Spectrum to remind CIG of this notorious bug. “You end up in prison whether it’s your fault or not and you just have to log off,” says a Spectrum user who posted a topic to ask CIG to look into the prison bugs.

“Klescher is consistently in an unacceptable broken state,” claims another player in response to the topic. The Klescher Rehabilitation System had some bugs before Alpha 3.23, but this is probably the worst state it ever had in a long time.

While Alpha 3.23 reactivated the oxygen system for prison, it does not perform at a balanced level. The player’s oxygen usage goes up and down in a weird pattern with no specific reason. While sometimes you may manage to make it to Depth 8 or 9 with a full oxygen tank, the other time you may run out of oxygen in Depth 4.

Most players, however, agree that when the oxygen tank’s capacity falls below 30%, oxygen starts to deplete from your tank at a harsh rate, with almost 1% per second. This is something I experienced in prison, which makes players need an extraordinary amount of Oxypens to reach higher Depths or escape from the prison.

Based on my own experience, you will need at least 16 Oxypens to make it out of the prison to the surface of Aberdeen without making any errors. But this is only when the Oxygen usage rate is at its best! If it falls to the bugged state, even over 20 Oxypens will not get you out.

Unfortunately, oxygen usage is not the only problem. Sometimes the Oxypens do not charge your oxygen tank, which is a complete waste of resources and merits. Also, sometimes your UI indicator shows a wrong value for the amount of available oxygen. This causes your character to start breathing the toxic air of Aberdeen, while the UI indicator says you still have over 10% oxygen left.

The next annoying bug is about the Oxygen Kiosks located in the mining depths. I can confirm that most of those kiosks are bugged and do not transfer oxygen into your tanks. It seems only a few kiosks in Route 3 work at the moment. This causes the player to completely rely on Oxypens, but there is a bigger problem with Oxypens as well.

No matter how much Merit you have, the Commissary Kiosks do not allow you to buy more than a certain amount of Oxypens each time. This limit will stay in place for around 30 minutes until you can buy Oxypens again. Now, even the amount of Oxypens you can buy is bugged. Sometimes you may manage to buy up to 10 Oxypens, while some other times the kiosk may refuse to sell you more than 5 Oxypens.

Sorry, but it is not over yet. The next big problem is that Hadanite no longer spawns in mining Depths. This is another bug that I fully explored and can confirm that they really don’t spawn. Tried it on multiple servers, and searched all the Routes up until Depth 12 and beyond, but still didn’t even find a single Hadanite rock.

While you may be able to loot some Hadanite gemstones by killing NPCs, the rocks just don’t spawn to let you mine them on your own. So, you are stuck with the Aphorite and Dolivine rocks.

All these bugs make any attempt to shorten your sentence quite annoying. Of course, the prison experience was supposed to become a little bit harsh with the reactivation of the oxygen system, but these are clearly bugs, no matter what your favorite streamer likes to call them.

Unless you spend a lot of time looting and purchasing loads of Oxypens, it is impossible to escape from the Klescher Rehabilitation System. On a larger scale, this hurts the outlaw experience in the verse and forces people to avoid any unlawful activity to avoid being trapped in prison.
