Less than a month past the global release of Squad Busters, Supercell announces yet another game set in the Clash universe: Project Rise.
While it is still in the early development stages, Project Rise is a new game risen from the ashes of Clash Heroes, a single-player action RPG from Supercell that no longer exists. Project Rise will take the same concept but promote an online multiplayer experience.
According to the developer, they have used some Clash Heroes assets and art styles in Project Rise, but everything else is built from scratch. The game is still in the pre-alpha stage, but a playtest will go live earlier in July 2024. In case you are interested, head over to Project Rise’s webpage to register for the playtest.
Similar to Clash Heroes, Project Rise will be a PvE experience, but you can team up with two other players to explore the levels of a mysterious dungeon called The Tower. The game will consist of multiple sessions, with each one sending you to a different level of The Tower. So, the higher you go, the better the loot and scores you will achieve.
The announcement trailer gives us a small glimpse at the early gameplay of Project Rise. Similar to Squad Busters, the game uses a top-down camera that follows the main character. At first sight, Project Rise looks like an action RPG experience with a MOBA-style combat system, as each character comes with a basic attack along with a few other unique skills.
Since the game is set in the Clash universe, you will only be able to choose from Clash characters, unlike Squad Busters which brings characters from all Supercell titles. Your enemies in Project Rise will also be Clash characters. The brief gameplay footage confirms the presence of Barbarian, Archer, Valkyrie, Goblins, and Mega Knight. We can also spot Skeleton Giant and Fisherman in the background art of the announcement trailer.
Will Project Rise Survive?
Supercell has launched loads of games from the Clash universe so far, but none of them managed to reach the success of Clash of Clans and Clash Royale. The developer’s latest attempt Squad Busters has managed to reach over 10 million downloads on Google Play almost a month after its release, but it has a long way ahead to reach Supercell’s top games.
Unfortunately, several Clash experiences have also been canceled or shut down in the previous years. Clash Quest, Clash Mini, and Clash Heroes are previous failed attempts by Supercell that couldn’t survive long enough.
Supercell usually has a habit of launching its titles in smaller regions first before attempting a global release. Mostly, if a game doesn’t hit the required milestones during its limited launch, the developer ignores to launch it globally. This was the case with Clash Mini, which was canceled after failing to meet expectations during its limited launch in Europe.
So, Project Rise is not immune to getting buried. However, one thing that makes this new project special is the fact that is being developed on Unreal Engine 5. It is yet to be known how this could help Project Rise to stand out, but we will learn more about this decision in the future, hopefully.
